As one more effort to keep community residents informed on municipal government activity, the City of Independence has posted its 2017 3rd Quarter Operating Report on its website at www.independenceks.gov. The detailed, 33-page report covers the quarter ending September 30, 2017, and includes financial performance data for each city budget category; executive summary narratives; and the city’s 2017-2018 Strategic Goals work plan with timelines and outcomes to date.
“For citizens who are interested in following our operations and understanding the goals of our organization, I hope this document will be helpful and informative,” Whitehead said. “Over the past couple of years, the City has taken many strides toward expanding our citizens’ access to information, and this is one more step.”
Whitehead said, due to the time it takes to gather and verify the relevant data, prepare the document, review and secure the appropriate approvals, there will always be a period of time between the end of a fiscal quarter and the posting of the document. Approximately a one-quarter delay is to be expected, he noted.
“Just like any large organization, many variables impact our ability to share data in a timely manner, including outstanding payables and receivables and the process of verifying data at several levels,” he said. “We pledge to expedite the posting of information to the best of our ability each quarter, and we appreciate feedback from the community regarding the presentation of the information and whether it is beneficial.”
