Get up from your desk and on your feet April 25 to start taking steps to a healthier you by joining National Walk @ Lunch Day®!
Do you know that finding just 30 minutes to take a walk most days of the week can be beneficial to your well-being? Walking is one of the simplest, safest and most effective forms of exercise. A regular walking routine – a 30-minute brisk walk most days of the week – can help control weight, reduce stress and anxiety, lower blood pressure, and be a positive influence on heart disease, diabetes and osteoporosis.
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas is hosting the 12th annual National Walk @ Lunch Day to encourage busy people like you to take a walk during your lunch break and start a healthy routine.
Participation is fun and easy. On April 25, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas invites employees of Independence businesses, elected officials and the public to join its employees at noon for a rally and walk at Riverside Park, Park Blvd. and Oak St. A short rally will be followed by a 30-minute walk on the park's trail. Join in the fun by wearing comfortable shoes to take a walk at lunch.
The first 100 participants who stop by the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas table at the event will receive a free National Walk @ Lunch Day T-shirt.
Schools also are encouraged to participate in National Walk @ Lunch Day by setting personal goals for students and teachers, and incorporating walking into the school day as a first step toward long-term prevention of health problems for future generations.
