Notice to Owners of Property Within the 1% (100-year) Floodplain

The City of Independence Building Department is requesting that residents and business owners report any structural damage due to the flooding caused by recent heavy rainfall.

Property owners located in the Floodplain areas of the City of Independence are reminded that a Floodplain permit is required prior to any structural repairs.

Notice is hereby given that the City of Independence Building Department will be conducting inspections of properties because of the recent flooding. Inspections of properties in the floodplain will be in order to determine substantial damage. Any property in the 1% annual chance special flood hazard area will be required to have a floodplain permit to complete repairs.

For any question or concerns regarding damage to a residential/commercial structure, inquiring if your property is located in the floodplain or to obtain a floodplain permit contact the City of Independence Building Department 811 W. Laurel or 620-332-2541.  Floodplain permit forms are also available on the City’s website at www.IndependenceKs.gov.
