Now Accepting Applications: Independence Historic Preservation & Resource Commission
The City of Independence is seeking applicants to serve on the Independence Historic Preservation & Resource Commission (IHPRC). This seven-member advisory board plays a key role in protecting and enhancing the community’s historic, cultural, and architectural resources.
Applications are due by noon on December 23, 2025.
About the IHPRC
The IHPRC evaluates and recommends historic designations, reviews Certificates of Appropriateness, and provides guidance on preservation policies, education, and community engagement. Members are appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the City Commission.
Who Can Apply?
To be eligible, applicants must:
Reside within the City of Independence
Demonstrate interest, knowledge, or training in fields such as:
History
Architecture
Landscape architecture
Architectural history
Archeology
Planning
Real estate
Law
Finance
Building trades
Urban design
Geography
At least three members must be individuals engaged in or retired from preservation-related professions (e.g., architectural history, historic preservation, engineering, conservation). This requirement may be waived if reasonable recruitment efforts do not produce qualified applicants.
