Stich Shelter House

Subfacility of Riverside Park

Features

  1. Benches
  2. Fireplace
  3. Picnic Tables

This handsome, prairie style sandstone building has been the focal point of Riverside Park since it's construction in 1917. The interior has a lodge feel to it with a grand central fireplace, exposed beams, and knotty pine tables and benches. Double storefront doors open to covered porches that effectively double your entertainment space. Inside are (4) 10 foot picnic tables offering seating for 40-50 guests, (2) 8 foot serving tables, a lovely 10x4 buffet table, and benches of varying lengths to accommodate many configurations. The only heat is the fireplace and has no air conditioning.   Each porch has (2) 10 foot picnic tables that will provide seating for an additional 40 guests.

The Shelter House is surrounded by gardens and has views of a large fountain to the south. To the north of the building are family-style restrooms that are ADA accessible, a large playground with both modern and vintage play equipment, and a carousel that costs only a nickel. A short walk across the street brings you to our beautiful sculpture garden, putt-putt golf, and a vintage miniature train. Our FREE zoo is a short walk to the north.
