City crews will begin the annual process of courtesy neighborhood leaf pickup on ππ¨π―ππ¦πππ« π7. For leaf pickup purposes, the city has been mapped into 15 “zones” which crews will tackle between Monday and late February, contingent upon weather and equipment conditions. Crews will operate in numerical order, with Zone 1 pickup on the southwest corner of town, followed by Zones 2 through 15. A color-coded map of the leaf pickup zones can be viewed on the City’s website at https://www.independenceks.gov/Leaf-Pick-Up
Following is the pickup schedule:

Citizens are reminded of a few important considerations when preparing leaves for pickup:
- Leaves should be put by the curb or street but NOT in the street, as loose leaves can be a safety hazard for cyclists, pedestrians and motorists.
- Leaves cannot be placed more than 5 feet from the curb, as the vacuum will not reach. Crews will pick up ONLY what they can reach, and keeping piles close to the curb lessens the chance for property damage by equipment.
- Leaves should NOT be placed in the alley, as the City’s vacuum machine cannot navigate alleyways.
- No brush, weeds, rocks, bricks, etc., should be added to the leaf pile. This kind of debris can damage the leaf pickup equipment and jeopardize our ability to clean up your neighborhood. If crews notice debris in leaf piles, they will bypass the pile.
