Street Department

The Street Department is responsible for:

  • Brush pickup 
    • Brush is picked up by City crews by request. 
    • Please remember:
      • Brush must be placed:
        • Immediately adjacent to the curb, and not in the alley.
        • At least 4 feet away from any utility meter, cover, pole, or guy wire.
      • Brush should be stacked and compact with branches facing the same direction. If the pile is too large, tall, heavy, or not properly stacked, it will not be picked up. 
      • If the brush pile contains lumber or trash, it will not be picked up. 
    • If you have questions, call 620-332-2507 during office hours.
  • Brush yard   
    • Independence City residents can take their brush, leaves, and limbs to the City Brush Yard during the following times:  
      • Every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday: 8 a.m. - 12 noon
    • The brush yard is at 3840 CR 4100, or 1/2 mile South of College Avenue on C.R. 4100.
    • Please remember lumber and trash may not be taken to the brush yard. However, Independence City residents may take these items to the sanitation yard at 125 S. 21st Street during the following times:  

      • First Saturday of the month: 8 a.m. - 12 noon
      • Every Thursday and Friday: 8 a.m. - 12 noon
